The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has unveiled their 15-player squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025, set to take place in Pakistan and the UAE. Having reached the semi-finals in the 2017 edition, the Tigers will be determined to go one better and secure the trophy in this year’s highly anticipated competition.

Surprise Exclusions from Bangladesh Roster for Champions Trophy

Bangladesh is all set to kick off their 2025 ICC Champions Trophy campaign against India on Thursday, February 20, in Dubai. The highly anticipated 8-team tournament will run from February 19 to March 9, and the BCB has officially named the 15 players that will represent the nation to face top-tier teams in what promises to be an exciting and fiercely competitive month of one-day international cricket.

Najmul Shanto returns from injury to skipper the team but the most notable exclusion from the squad list is that of former captain and veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hassan. The 37-year-old’s axing comes amid his suspension from bowling in ICC events owing to an illegal action after recently failing a second set of independent assessments. Despite being eligible to play solely as a batsman, the BCB have opted not to include him in the squad.

In addition to Shakib, the Tigers have decided to leave out Litton Das for the competition after a series of disappointing performances from the wicketkeeper-batter in recent ODIs. Das failed to score a half-century in any of his last 13 innings, dating all the way back to the 2023 ODI World Cup and has been dismissed without getting into double digits in six of his last seven appearances for the national team in the 50-over format.

Other significant omissions include all-rounder Afif Hossain, as well as pace duo Shoriful Islam and Hasan Mahmud, while Tamim Iqbal, who was a key figure in the previous edition of the tournament, is now retired from international cricket. However, Mushfiqur Rahim will feature in the grand spectacle alongside other senior figures like Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed and experienced middle-order batter Mahmudullah.

Meanwhile, the most notable inclusion in Bangladesh’s squad is Parvez Hossain Emon, who earns his first-ever call-up to the ODI side having played seven T20I matches for the Tigers. Additionally, prodigious fast bowler Nahid Rana, who made his debut and impressed in the 50-over format during the team’s recent series against the West Indies, has also earned a spot among the 15 players entrusted to represent the country at the upcoming tournament. Be sure to check out our ICC Champions Trophy predictions, which will be available throughout the tournament.
