What makes the 2025 Bengaluru Open significant?
The Bengaluru Open is the largest ATP tennis event hosted on Indian soil in 2025. It’s classified as a Challenger 125 event this year, which sees it upgraded from a Challenger 100 event in 2024. The tournament is played on hard courts and boasts a prize pool of $200,000 split between the 32 player singles main draw and the 16 team doubles main draw.
The top-seeded player for the tournament is Czechia’s Vit Kopriva, who currently holds an ATP ranking of 121.
Which Indian players have had success at the Bengaluru Open?
India’s top-ranked player (currently at 130 in the ATP rankings), Sumit Nagal will unfortunately not be taking part in the Bengaluru Open this week. The 27-year-old was forced to retire from his final qualifying round matchup in the ATP 250 Buenos Aires earlier this month after reportedly coming down with a virus. Nagal made the semi-finals here last year and was crowned champion of this event back in 2017.
The most recent Indian winner of the ATP Bengaluru Open was in 2018 when the now-retired Prajnesh Gunneswaran defeated Saketh Myneni in an all-Indian final.
On the doubles side of things, Indian players have experienced a great deal of success at Bengaluru. The pair of Ramkumar Ramanathan and Sayketh Myneni won their second Bengaluru Open doubles title last year and became the fourth all-Indian team to be crowned champions at this event.
Top Indian players to watch in the 2025 Bengaluru Open
Ramkumar Ramanathan
Entering the main draw as a wild card, Ramkumar Ramanathan will take on seventh seed Shintaro Mochizuki of Japan in the round of 32. Ramanathan is ranked 447th currently and achieved a career-high ranking of 111th back in 2018. His opponent comes into this contest sitting 167th in the ATP rankings.
S D Prajwal Dev
Another Indian player who earned a wild card berth into the main draw is S D Prajwal Dev. The 28-year-old will face off against Czechia’s Marek Gengel in the round of 32. Gengel currently sits at 251 in the ATP rankings.
Manas Dhamne
Manas Dhamne, one of India’s most promising young talents on the tour right now, will certainly be one to watch in this tournament. The exciting 17-year-old from Pune is making his Bengaluru Open main draw debut and will face off against the winner of one of the qualifying matches.
Mukund Sasikumar
Mukund Sasikumar was able to get past local boy Rishi Reddy in the first qualifying round to earn a matchup with Hynek Barton for a spot in the main draw. He’s the eighth seed in qualifying while his opponent is the sixth seed. With Sumit Nagal’s omission, Sasikumar comes in as the second highest ranked Indian player in the Bengaluru Open at 449, just behind Ramanathan.
Doubles event
The doubles competition sees plenty of Indian involvement as well. There are four all-Indian teams in the ATP Bengaluru Open doubles event, while three other Indian players will be competing with doubles partners from different countries. Among the most notables are the top doubles seed Ray Ho (Taiwan) and Anirudh Chandrasekar (India), fourth seed team Niki Kaliyanda Poonacha (India) and Courney John Lock (Zimbabwe) and of course, defending champions Ramkumar Ramanathan and Saketh Myneni.
