World number 41 Miomir Kecmanovic will take on qualifier Zizou Bergs in the quarter-final of the ATP Gstaad Open on Friday. The winner of this match will face either Juan Pablo Varillas or Albert Ramos-Vinolas in the semi-final. Kecmanovic won his first ATP title back in 2020 and is now en route to earning his second here in Switzerland. The Serbian received a buy in the first round due to his seeding before facing Dominic Stricker in the last round. Kecmanovic drew first blood in the match, breaking his opponent midway through the first set but dropped service the very next game. He created three more break points in the set but couldn’t convert any before going on to win the tiebreak. Kecmanovic hit his stride in the second set, winning five consecutive games to progress to this round and move his record to 8-7 on the clay. 

In contrast, 155th-ranked Zizou Bergs has already played as many as four matches here in Switzerland, including two qualifiers against Thiago Seyboth Wild and Marco Trungelliti. Following the qualifiers, he faced the number eight seed Laslo Djere and pulled off one of his best victories of the season, overcoming the Serbian in three sets. Jurij Rodionov was his opponent in the last round, and despite going in as the underdog, he managed to hold off the Austrian, winning two tiebreaks in the match to secure his first-ever ATP quarter-final appearance. Bergs is now 24-18 for the year and 14-5 on the clay. Can he claim another big scalp here?
