Sixth seed Constant Lestienne and unseeded Zizou Bergs will meet on Friday in the Surbiton Trophy quarterfinals. Lestienne defeated Denis Kudla 2-0 to advance to this round. It was his eighth win of a difficult campaign so far that has seen him lose 12 of the 20 matches he has played. Before coming to Surbiton, Lestienne had lost eight straight matches. The Frenchman is making his debut in the competition and will hope switching to grass allows him to turn his season around. Lestienne has struggled over the years on grass and has sometimes gone full seasons without playing a match on the surface. Since 2014 he has played 14 matches on grass and his win/loss record is split down the middle. Lestienne is up 17 places in the live ranking to number 155.

Zizou Bergs has also had seasons where he has completely avoided playing on grass. He only made his career debut on the surface last season where he recorded eight wins from 10 matches. This saw him win his first title on grass, the Ilkley Trophy in the challenger circuit. Bergs has fared much better than Lestienne so far this season despite a lack of consistency. He has a record of 16 wins and 14 losses. The Belgian is also making his debut in Surbiton and has won both his matches by straight sets. He beat the qualifier Luke Saville in the previous round to move up 15 places to number 153 in the live ranking. Bergs has won one title so far this season which came on clay in Tallahassee. The winner will play either Jurij Rodionov or the winner of the second-round showdown between Daniel Evans and Gabriel Diallo.
