Holger Rune, the 13th seed at this year’s Australian Open, will face off with unseeded Zhang Zhizhen to begin his campaign. They will battle in the first round with the winner playing Matteo Berrettini or Cameron Norrie next. Below is our prediction for this match.

Zhang Zhizhen has started the season in poor form, and has been defeated three times in four outings. He hasn’t won since his United Cup opener and his last two defeats have been by straight sets.

The Chinese number one, who sits in 49th place in the ATP, lost to Denis Shapovalov in Adelaide in his last match.

Holger Rune had a disappointing campaign in Melbourne last year as he was eliminated in the second round. Having made the fourth round a year prior, he will be eager to avoid another early exit.

Rune, the world number 13, started the season with a 2-0 defeat to Jiri Lehecka in Brisbane. Last year, the Dane had a strong campaign in Brisbane and finished as runner-up.

He won 45 matches in 2024 and made it to at least the semi-finals in eight tournaments. He also had fourth-round finishes at the French Open and Wimbledon and had quarter-final runs at Indian Wells and Monte-Carlo.
