Hsu Yu-hsiou, qualifier, will hope to continue with his impressive US Open start on Thursday when he battles 16th seed Cameron Norrie. The winner of this second-round tie will next play either Arthur Fils or Matteo Arnaldi. Hsu Yu-hsiou is in his debut tournament at Flushing Meadows. He started things off in the qualifiers and is now on a four-match winning streak. Yu-hsiou defeated Thanasi Kokkinakis in four sets in the first round to register his first-ever win at a Grand Slam. The Taiwanese number one made his Grand Slam debut this season. He has now played in all four majors, making the main draw in Melbourne. The win over Kokkinakis, his 23rd of the season, has moved him to 172nd in the live ranking which is a career high. Yu-hsiou has been at his best this season on hard court where 22 of his victories have come in 31 outings. This form on hard court has allowed him to win three titles in the ITF and challenger circuits.

Cameron Norrie was more decisive in his first-round match against Alexander Shevchenko. He won in straight sets in an hour and 31 minutes and will hope for the same dominance here. The Briton dropped one place to 17th in the live ranking despite the win. Before arriving for his seventh appearance here, Norrie had lost four matches in a row. Despite his recent struggles, Norrie is having a decent campaign and has compiled a 33-16 record. Twelve of those wins have come on hard court where he has also appeared in one final. His highlight of the campaign however came on clay in Rio where he emerged victorious. Norrie recorded his best-ever result at Flushing Meadows last season as he made it through to the fourth round.
