Adrian Mannarino has finally rediscovered his winning touch. The Frenchman had lost ten successive matches before beating Borna Coric in the first round of the US Open. He lost in round two to David Goffin.

Earlier this year, he was a career-high 17th but has slumped to 46th in the latest rankings list. Mannarino had more success in the recent hard court Challenger Tour tournament held in Rennes, reaching the quarter-finals.

Round one in Chengdu saw him defeat fellow Frenchman Terence Atmane. He lost the first set on a tie-break but only dropped four games in the remaining two sets. That's taken him up to 45th in the live rankings.

World number 531 Yi Zhou was given a wild card to play in this tournament. The Chinese player has made the most of that with a first round victory over Tsen Chung-hsien.

He had to come from behind to win that match and was 3-1 up in the final set when his opponent retired. That win has taken him to a career-high 444th, the first time he's been in the world's top 500.
