Seventh seed Yannick Hanfmann had a tough first round in the Cordoba Open. He now takes on qualifier Roman Andres Burruchaga in round two for a place in the quarter finals of this clay court tournament. The winner will be facing either fourth seed Sebastian Ofner or qualifier Luciano Darderi in the last eight. Hanfmann had to come from a set down to beat Juan Pablo Virallas in the first round. He lost the first set on a tie-break, won the second in the same fashion and then won the final set losing just one game. Hanfmann is the world number 59 but was as high as 45th last year. The German is 58th in the live rankings after his first round win. 2024 started well with a win over Sebastian Korda in Brisbane but then lost his next three matches. That culminated with a loss to Gael Monfils in the Australian Open.

Burruchaga was a career high 170th at the start of this tournament. He's up to 159th in the live rankings thanks to his three-set win over Diego Schwartzman in round one, losing the middle one. He had to win two qualifying matches to get into the main draw and only lost nine games in those two matches. That took him into his first ever ATP Tour main draw. His father, who won a FIFA World Cup with Argentina will be proud of his son. The Argentinian player lost two of his first three matches of 2024 and was beaten in the first qualifying round of the Australian Open. With that early exit in Melbourne, he entered the Challenger Tour tournament in Uruguay and reached the semi-final but then withdrew from that match. We go for Hanfmann to win this match.
