Yannick Hanfmann vs Pedro Martinez Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Chengdu Open

Unseeded Yannick Hanfmann takes on the fourth seed Pedro Martinez in the Chengdu Open quarter-finals. The other seeds in the bottom half of the draw are Alexander Bublik and Roman Safiullin. Here's our match prediction.

World number 95 Yannick Hanfmann is playing in his first hard court quarter-final of 2024. The German has reached one ATP Tour semi-final this year but that was played on clay which is his best surface.

His last hard court tournament didn't go well with a first qualifying loss in the US Open. Better form was shown last week though when he won both of his hard court matches played in the Davis Cup.

This week began with a straight sets win over qualifier Shintaro Mochizuki. He then knocked out seventh seed Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in three sets with the middle set being dropped.

Those two wins have taken him to 87th in the live rankings. He has won two of his three previous matches against Martinez. All three were played on clay and none of them had more than 16 games played in them. 

Pedro Martinez is another player who gets his best results on clay rather than hard courts. The Spaniard is at 42nd in the latest rankings, just two places below his career-high and is still at that position in the live rankings.

His form before this tournament has not been good at all. Six of his last seven matches had been lost, four of them being suffered on hard courts. He's won one hard court Challenger Tour event this year but didn't beat any top 100 ranked players.

Martinez beat unseeded Aleksandar Vukic in straight sets in his only match this week. He's yet to win two successive matches in the main draw of an ATP Tour hard court event in 2024. We tip Hanfmann to win.
