Yannick Hanfmann vs Lorenzo Musetti Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Mutua Madrid Open

Yannick Hanfmann and Lorenzo Musetti will square off for the third time in their careers when the pair meet in the Round of 64 at the Mutua Madrid Open on Friday afternoon. Ranked 108th in the world, Hanfmann has worked hard on the clay surface this year with little joy, but he has shown signs of improvement in recent times, reaching the semi-final in Houston at the start of the month and the round of 16 last week in Munich. Despite maintaining a solid record of 21-11 for the year, the German has found a large portion of his wins coming in qualifier matches. Here in Madrid, Hanfmann beat Maximilian Marterer and Arthur Cazaux during qualifying and followed up with a strong performance in the first round, beating Juan Pablo Varillas in three sets. Hanfmann has beaten Musetti once on this surface in the past, which came in the Todi Challenger event back in 2020. However, Musetti has improved significantly since then, and the German may find it difficult to overcome him in this one. 

Ranked 18th in the world, Musetti comes into this tournament after an excellent showing in Barcelona last week, where the Italian reached the semi-final, beating the likes of Cameron Norrie and Jannik Sinner in the earlier rounds. Musetti was up against the number two seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in the semis and pushed the Greek the entire way but came up just short, losing in three sets (6-4 5-7 6-3). Musetti had a solid clay court season last year with a record of 21-7 and is currently 7-6 this year. Musetti has also beaten this opponent once before, which came two months after he was beaten by Hanfmann, leveling the head-to-head standings at 1-1. This will be the Italian’s first match here in Madrid, thanks to a buy in the first round, and following strong performances in Monte Carlo and Barcelona last week, Musetti will be expecting to go deep in this one as well.
