Yannick Hanfmann vs Hamad Medjedovic Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Swiss Open Gstaad
by Devesh Jaganath | in Tennis Predictions
World number 45 Yannick Hanfmann will take on qualifier Hamad Medjedovic in the quarter-final of the ATP Gstaad Open on Friday. The winner of this encounter will face either Pedro Cachin or Jaume Munar in the next round. Hanfmann has had a productive season to date, especially since the end of April when he reached the round of 32 at the Madrid Masters, which brought his ranking back inside the top 100. A quarter-final in Rome and a second-round appearance at Roland Garros followed, which saw his ranking improve further to inside the top 60. As a result, he received a buy in the first round and faced Daniel Altmaier in his first and only match so far. After dropping the first set, Hanfmann found his stride in the second to break his opponent three times and went on the secure the victory in just under two hours in the final set. The German has now improved his record to 36-18 for the year and 27-11 on the clay. He will be heavily fancied to progress in this match.
Meanwhile, Medjedovic’s run here in Switzerland has been an eye-catching one. Following his two qualifiers, the Serbian was drawn against fifth seed Zhizhen Zhang in the first round and came from a set down to win the tie in three after losing just one game in the second set. However, possibly his best win of the year came in the last round against Dominic Thiem, where he saved four breakpoints to remain in the contest before shining in the final set to send his opponent packing. He is now 22-22 for the year and 21-14 on the clay. Medjedovic’s performance at this competition has already earned him nearly 30 places in the world rankings, but he will have to turn it up another notch to stand a chance against a solid-looking Hanfmann.
