Mertens is ranked 22nd in the latest list but up to 30th in the live rankings. Already this year, the 29-year-old has reached the final of the Hobart Intrnational. It didn't go so well for her in the Australian Open, losing in round two to Jessica Pegula.
This week has seen her beat Taylor Townsend, Tatjana Maria (after dropping the first set) and sixth seed Camila Osorio for the loss of six games.
