The 30-11-5 Winnipeg Jets are back in action against the 24-14-8 Toronto Maple Leafs. The Leafs got the better of the Jets in Toronto just a few days ago 1-0, needing overtime to get the job done. Things have been great for the Jets this season at the back, no team in the NHL has conceded fewer goals than them. It has been at the other end that they have struggled and although Kyle Connor is back, the loss of Mark Scheifele seems to have affected them more. Three times this season they have been shutout, two of them coming in their last five games, scoring one, two and four in the other three. They have only been averaging a touch over three goals per game this season as it is but that has dropped to 1.4 in their last five. Home has been a good place for them this season and this is a single one before two more on the road at the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Philadelphia Flyers. Home is where they feel like they can exact a quick revenge for that defeat and if their record is anything to go by here this season, they can do exactly that.
Auston Matthews scored his 39th goal of the season against the Jets to win the game. He has been in exceptional form once more this campaign, just one point away from 600 in his career. This is his 8th season in the league and has never scored less than 34 with a best of 60 in the 2021-22 season. He is on course for 70 this year if he is able to keep up his current pace which would put him past 350 goals in 550 or so games which is an exceptional rate. There have been some very inconsistent performances from the Leafs on the road this season, winning two and losing two of a four-game road swing recently. A difficult team to predict, they will certainly be full of confidence after their 4th shutout of the season.
