Washington Nationals vs San Diego Padres Prediction & Betting Tips - MLB
by Joseph King | in MLB Predictions
The Washington Nationals and the San Diego Padres will close out a three game series when they meet for this National League clash. Washington, who sit bottom of the NL East, will be looking for back-to-back wins against the NL West fourth-place Padres. San Diego took game one by a score of 7-4 before the Nats were able to respond with a 5-3 win to take the second game. The Nationals sit nine games behind the first-place Braves in their division. The Padres have gotten off to an extremely disappointing start and are eight games behind the first-place Dodgers.
Taking the mound for the Nationals is Jake Irvin who will be making only his fifth start in the MLB. The 26-year-old has a record of 1-2 as a starter with an ERA of 5.50 through his four appearances so far. Irvin’s last appearance saw him make it through only two and two-thirds innings after giving up six runs on five hits with two home runs. He’s now given up 12 total runs in his last two starts alone, 10 of which have been earned. His Nationals team has at least been better in recent days and has now won three of the last four. Washington has managed to find more consistency on the offensive side with 20 runs scored in the last four games.
Blake Snell gets the nod for the Padres and will make his 10th start of the season. The former Cy Young winner continues to struggle in 2023 and has managed a record of only 1-6 with an ERA of 5.50. Snell has given up at least two earned runs in each game that he has started this season. His last outing saw him give up a season high six earned runs in a 6-1 loss to the Red Sox. He’ll have the support of a hot Padres hitting team however, who have put up seven runs on two separate occasions in the last three games.

Our Washington Nationals vs San Diego Padres Prediction
This game sees two pitchers that have struggled to keep runs off the board facing off. Jake Irvin has really regressed in his recent starts following two extremely positive showings in his first two games. With the way the Padres have been hitting lately, it’s hard to imagine them not putting up a healthy amount of runs here. Snell will likely give up two to three runs but he should get enough run support to make this a comfortable San Diego victory. Our Washington Nationals vs San Diego Padres prediction is for the Padres to win and cover the -1.5 runline
