Wales vs South Africa Prediction & Betting Tips - Test Matchs
by Steve Ashfield | in Rugby Predictions
Wales bid to avoid making some very unwanted history this weekend. They have lost their last 11 test matches and failure to beat South Africa at home will see them go a whole calendar year without winning a test match. That's something the Welsh Dragons haven't managed to do since 1937. To avoid matching that feat, they simply have to beat the world champions South Africa and that's not looking likely to happen.
Last week saw the Welsh side lose 52-20 at home to Australia and that followed another loss in Cardiiff to Fiji. The pressure is buildiing on coach Warren Gatland and they need to find some form ahead of the Six Nations tournament in which they lost all five games earlier this year. South Africa aren't just the world champions, they also won the Rugby Championship this summer finishing ahead of Australia, New Zealand and Argentina. Here's our match prediction.

Wales - South Africa: Form Analysis
Wales are having a miserable 2024 and it's unlikely to get any better this weekend. How can they go from a 52-20 loss at home to Australia to beating the world champions South Africa at home in the space of a week?
The loss to Australia followed a home defeat by Fiji and that made it 11 successive test matches lost by the Welsh Dragons. They have already lost once this year to South Africa losing away to them 41-13 in June with the second half lost 27-0.
This year has also seen them lose all five matches in the Six Nations tournament and their last international victory was in last year's World Cup against Georgia.
Springboks have an excellent record against Wales.
South Africa are the reigning World Cup and Rugby Championship champions. Last week saw them defeat England and before that they won away in Scotland. That made it three successive wins for the Springboks.
34 of their 42 games against Wales have ended in victory, including the last three. They've scored 93 points against Wales in the last two. We tip them to win this match on a -21.5 points handicap.

Wales & South Africa Squad Analysis
Several changes are being made by Warren Gatland for this match against South Africa. Sam Costelow will start at fly-half and replaces Gareth Anscombe.Blair Murray will move to full-back having previously been on the wing. He's never played a professional match in that position.
Rio Dyer is back in the team but Cameron Winnett is no longer in the Welsh squad. Up front, Christ Tshiunza comes in for Adam Beard who is injured. Tain Plumtree is replaced at number eight and takes over from Aaron Wainwright.
Wales squad lacks experience.
Freddie Thomas is on the replacements' bench. If he makes it onto the field of play, he will be making his international debut. There is a distinct lack of experience in the Welsh squad. Their 23 players have only 334 caps between them and that's compared to the 946 of South Africa.
Prop Ox Niche has been left out by South Africa. He was injured in last week's win over England. He's not in the squad and Wilco Louw plays instead. Thomas du Toit will now move from starting tighthead to the loosehead of the scrum.
