Donna Vekic, the 16th seed at the China Open, will take on unseeded Viktorija Golubic in the tournament’s second round. This will be a second match between the two and we have the prediction ready.

The clash will produce the opponent to face Mirra Andreeva or Irina-Camelia Begu in the next round. Golubic saw off Wang Xiyu in a gruelling three-set battle in the first round that lasted over two hours.

With the win, she ended a run of three successive defeats and tied her record for the season at 17-17. The Swiss player has lacked consistency and at tour level, has only once won more than one main draw match.

That was at the Australian Open where she managed a third-round finish. Now up to 95th in the live ranking, Golubic will be seeking a second victory over Vekic. She won their only encounter so far, last year in Nottingham.

Donna Vekic is competing in Beijing for the sixth time. She debuted here in 2014, when she lost in the qualifying rounds. The Croat hasn’t had the best of times competing in this WTA 1000 event, managing just two wins in her seven matches.

But with her exciting form this year, she will fancy putting up a better account of herself. Vekic, who has moved up to 18th in the WTA, a new career high, has compiled a 30-18 record.

The highlight of her season is a silver medal win at the Paris Olympics. She also finished as runner-up in Bad Homburg and had a run to the semi-finals at Wimbledon.

Vekic was last on the court at the start of September after earning a fourth-round finish at the US Open.
