Victoria Azarenka will seek another win over eighth seed Jelena Ostapenko when they square off next at the Qatar Open. They will battle in the third round of the tournament. Victoria Azarenka has won all four times she has faced off with Ostapenko. Three of their encounters have been on hard court and last season she defeated her twice. The Russian, who is having a strong start to the year, should therefore be confident of a win here. Azarenka has won eight of the 10 matches she has played so far with all 10 fixtures taking place on hard courts. She defeated Wang Xinyu in straight sets in the last round. Despite progressing to this round, the 34-year-old has dropped one place to 32nd in the live ranking. Azarenka is a two-time Doha champion with her last title coming in 2013.

Jelena Ostapenko has never won the title here, but she has once finished as runner-up. This was back in 2016 and she will be eager for another deep run. Considering her blistering start to the year, this isn’t far-fetched. Ostapenko has won 14 of the 16 matches she has played and has won two titles, in Adelaide and Linz. She arrived to make her eighth appearance here after her title run in Linz and is now on a five-match winning streak. The Latvian, who is now up to ninth in the live ranking, secured a straight-sets win over Anhelina Kalinina in the second round. The winner here will face either Iga Swiatek or Ekaterina Alexandrova in the quarterfinals.
