Victoria Azarenka, 18th seed is set to face unseeded Bianca Andreescu in the first round at the French Open on Tuesday. The former world number one has been inconsistent so far in 2023 but has won four more matches that she has lost. On clay, she’s won two, and lost two of her four matches. But as she is a former semifinalist here, the Belarussian will be confident of having a sustained stay at the tournament. Azarenka has won the first-round fixture in her last four editions at Roland Garros. And will expect to do the same in this first encounter with Andreescu.

Bianca Andreescu is also having consistency issues so far and has a record of nine wins and nine losses. She has lost both her matches on clay and this form could jeopardize her sixth appearance at the French Open. The Canadian has won half of the eight matches she has played at Roland Garros so far in her career. Last season she equaled her best-ever result by making it to the second round. Despite arriving here with a three-match losing streak, Andreescu is up in the live rankings. She has moved up three places to 39th and could move up two more places with a win on Tuesday. This match will produce the opponent for either Erika Andreeva or Emma Navarro in the second round of the competition.
