Another surprise final in a WTA event as 15th seeded Veronika Kudermetova takes on unseeded Danka Kovinic. Veronika Kudermetova is ranked 38th in the world and is in her second final of the year. The previous one was back in January when getting to the final in Abu Dhabi and beating Elina Svitolina on her way to a loss against fourth seeded Aryna Sabalenka. Kudermetova lost in the third round of the Australian Open but then her form dipped with one win in three events. Her form has returned this week though and she has reached this final in Charleston without dropping a set. It's been a kind draw with no seeds having to be met due to one after another falling. Not an easy set of opponents though with Sloane Stephens and Paula Badosa (who'd beaten Ashleigh Barty) and both beaten in style.

Now Kudermetova takes on the current world 91 Danka Kovinic in the final. Her opponent has won more matches in this tournament than she had all year. Any review of the Australian Open will see her getting a mention. Not for a good reason as she lost to Ashleigh Barty without winning a single game. This week has seen her show much better form, though she nearly exited in the first round to Leylah Annie Fernandez. Better performances have come in beating Petra Kvitova, though she retired in the second set. In the last eight, she beat 11th seeded Yulia Putinsteva, again losing the first set. No such problem in her semi-final as Kovinic beat 12th seeded Ons Jabeur for the loss of five games. Kuderemetova looks in the better form, go for her to win this final.
