The 2023 Stanley Cup playoffs continue in the Conference Finals with the Vegas Golden Knights looking to go up 2-0 on the Dallas Stars. The top-seeded Golden Knights got off to a perfect start with a 4-3 overtime win over the second-seed Dallas Stars on Friday. This gives Vegas a 1-0 lead in this best-of-seven series with the winner advancing to a Stanley Cup Finals meeting against either Florida or Carolina.
The game one win means that the Golden Knights have now won their last three games on the trot. It was a tense opening game as Dallas twice came back from a goal down. The visitors would score the eventual equalizer with just two minutes remaining in regulation time. However, Vegas would only need 90 seconds of overtime to end things and claim a vital game one victory on their home ice. The Knights have now won five of their seven home playoff games in this postseason run. They’ve also been in an excellent scoring rhythm, netting 13 goals in their last three games.
Dallas comes into game two as slight underdogs to even the series up. They proved themselves to be a formidable road team in the regular season and racked up 25 wins in 41 away trips. However, they're naturally finding things tougher in the playoffs as the competition heats up. The Stars have lost four of their seven away games in this year’s postseason which includes their last two straight. A worrying trend developing for the visitors is the amount of goals they are allowing.
