The Dallas Stars host the Vegas Golden Knights for game one of the Conference Finals in the 2023 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs. The top-seeded Golden Knights will be out to avenge their loss to the second-seed Stars when these two teams met at this stage in the 2019/20 season. Dallas would run out 4-1 series winners back then but Vegas will feel confident of their chances this time around. The Golden Knights come into this series as the betting favorites to advance to a Stanley Cup Finals meeting with either the Florida Panthers or the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Stars were taken to seven games by a surprise Seattle Kraken side in the previous round. Seattle put up a good fight but the Stars defense would ultimately prove too much as they smothered the Kraken attack to record a 2-1 win. They now enter this meeting with the Golden Knights having won three of their last four games and on a solid run defensively. Dallas have held their opponents to three or fewer goals in three of their last four games. They’ve also been able to turn on the offense when needed, netting 16 goals in their last four outings as well.
As for the Golden Knights, they managed to get past the Edmonton Oilers in the second round by way of a 4-2 series victory. With the series tied up at two games a piece, Vegas would secure a win at home before winning the decisive game six 5-2 away from home. Similar to their opponents today, the Knights have also won three of their last four ahead of this contest. They’ve put up very similar offensive and defensive numbers as Dallas in recent games as well. Vegas has conceded 10 goals while scoring a total of 15 over the last four games.
