Eighth seed Varvara Gracheva will meet unseeded Jana Fett in the second round of the Thailand Open 2. The two will clash on Thursday for their first career meeting and here’s the prediction for the match.

Gracheva saw off unseeded Taylah Preston in the first round to mark a strong start to her debut. She won in straight sets, halting a run of three successive defeats.

The Frenchwoman has struggled in 2024 and currently has won just one more match than the 23 she has lost. A positive from this though is that 21 of her wins have come at tour events.

Gracheva, who earned a fourth-round finish at Roland Garros, her best performance at a major, has also produced a quarter-final finish in Auckland. Advancing to this round has moved her up five places and into 61st in the live ranking.

Jana Fett had to dig deep to overcome the challenge of Zheng Saisai. The Croat won in three sets after coming back from losing the opening set. Saisai is ranked outside the top 1000 WTA places and hasn’t won a Singles match since 2021.

With Fett struggling on hard courts this season, it was still a surprise to see her sweat to win her opener. The Croat, who has compiled a 25-16 record alternating between the tour and ITF circuits, has won just two hard-court matches.

She is also yet to win more than one match in the main draw of a tour event. The Split and Oeiras champion in the ITF circuit has moved up to 122nd in the live ranking.

The winner here will advance to the quarter-finals where a tie against Rebecca Sramkova or Magda Linette awaits.
