The final group stage matches of the FIBA World Cup first phase are underway as Group C leaders the United States take on bottom-placed Jordan. Tournament favorites the USA have expectedly been cruising through the competition and there is little to suggest that will change here. They recorded a 27 point victory over New Zealand in the tournament opener and followed that up with a 109-81 victory over Greece. Overall, the Stars and Stripes are on a run of seven consecutive victories across all competitions. With the first group stage results carrying over into the second-phase, Steve Kerr and his men will be sure not to take their foot off the gas. Anthony Edwards and Jalen Brunson are leading the way for Team USA and make up what is likely the best backcourt in the competition. Both players, along with the majority of their teammates, look to be acclimating to the slightly different FIBA rules.
Jordan gave a good account of themselves in their recent encounter with New Zealand but ultimately came up short. The 32nd-ranked nation pushed the game to overtime against the 26th-ranked Tall Blacks but only managed to score two points in the extra period. The result was a 95-87 loss for Jordan, marking their third overall and second straight in this competition. Jordan’s hopes fall on the shoulders of former NBA man and recent Philippine Basketball Association best import award winner Rondae Hollis-Jefferson. RHJ, a naturalized citizen, has been showing out for his country. He dropped 24 points against Greece and followed that up with a sublime 39 point, nine rebound and four assist performance against New Zealand. Jordan will need Hollis-Jefferson to put forward an even better performance than the ones he has come up with to stand a chance against the USA.

We expected the United States and its players to get better and better game by game in this competition. Part of this is that the players have to adapt to the FIBA ruleset, which can differ from the rules that they are used to playing with in the NBA. The USA are expected to score at will in this game, with their current team over / under sitting at 114.5 points. They’re also roughly 42 point favorites on the point spread which means the United States players should have ample opportunity for some big offensive nights. Anthony Edwards is arguably the USA’s most dangerous player and we expect him to get his fill. Our USA vs Jordan prediction is for Edwards to score over 14.5 points.
