USA - Australia: Form Analysis
The USA are still unbeaten in Paris. Having won all of their four matches averaging a tournament-high 91 points per game, their confidence is unmatched. Chery Reeve’s players, who are looking to add to the USA’s Olympics dominance, saw off Nigeria 88-74 in the quarter-finals.
So far in 2024, Team USA have won eight of the nine matches they have played. Their only loss was an exhibition match against a select WNBA All-Star team. The US, who are seeking a record-extending 10th gold medal, have won every single Olympic Women’s Basketball Tournament since 1996.
Three of their titles, in 2000, 2004 and 2008 were courtesy of wins against Australia in the final. The USA are also shooting a tournament-high 50.5% from the field and 58.3% from two-pointers.
Unbeaten at Paris 2024, the USA remain one of the bookies favorites to add to their nine Olympic gold medals.
Australia have bounced back exceptionally well after beginning their tournament with defeat. Following a shaky preparation period for the games, Australia arrived in Paris with many questioning their chances to dominate in the Games.
They had lost four of their build-up matches, which gave Nigeria an advantage. Africa’s sole representatives at the Games would claim a convincing 13-point win and held Australia to 62 points. It was a wake-up call and Sandy Brondello’s players have put up at least 70 points since that defeat.
In the quarter-finals, the Opals were in dominant form against Serbia, winning 85-67. It was the first time in the competition that they scored over 80 points. They will now hope this momentum prevails as they seek to halt the USA’s winning streak against them. Australia are averaging 74 points per game shooting 47.2% from the field.

With a poor record against the USA, Australia will need their best players to perform here.
Australia are shooting 36.9% from three-pointers which is the best record in Paris. Lauren Jackson, Tess Madgen, Ezi Magbegor, and Cayla George are all shooting over 40% from behind the arc. Sami Whitcomb has led the team in points per game and is averaging 14.8 points in 32.9 minutes. Alanna Smith, who is averaging 12.3 points, is also another player to watch out here for.
