World number 28 Ugo Humbert and the wildcard Dominic Stricker will on Friday square off at the Swiss Indoors tournament. The winner of this quarterfinal will then take on fourth seed Hubert Hurkacz or the unseeded Tallon Griekspoor in the semifinals. Dominic Stricker earned yet another top-10 victory in 2023 as he defeated world number eight Casper Ruud in the last round. He won the match in three sets and is now through to his sixth quarterfinal of the season. Stricker has now won two of the three matches he has played against the ATP’s top 10 this year. Before arriving for his second appearance in Basel, the Swiss had lost six straight matches. He is now up to 89th in the live ranking after winning his 35th match of the season.

Ugo Humbert battled through two tiebreaks to defeat seventh seed Nicolas Jarry 2-0 in the second round. The Frenchman has been in excellent form lately and his performance in that match highlighted this. Humbert has won eight of his last 10 matches and has now made the quarterfinals in his last three tournaments. The win over Jarry was his 43rd in 67 outings this year. But despite the win, the 25-year-old has dropped one place to 29th in the live ranking. Humbert has won 10 of 14 matches on indoor hard courts which has in turn resulted in one runner-up finish.
