Toronto Maple Leafs vs Chicago Blackhawks Prediction & Betting Tips - NHL
by Joseph King | in NHL Predictions
The brand new 2023/24 NHL season continues with the Atlantic second-placed Toronto Maple Leafs hosting the Central eighth-place Chicago Blackhawks. It’s been a strong start to the new season for the Maple Leafs who have Stanley Cup aspirations. They’ve won their first two appearances on the year and will be looking to continue their perfect winning start on Monday night. The Leafs opened their season with a 6-5 shootout win over the Montreal Canadiens before securing a 7-4 win over Minnesota in their most recent outing. 2022 Hart Memorial Trophy winner Auston Matthews has been red-hot to start the year with back-to-back hat tricks. After starting the first two games, first-choice goalie Ilya Samsonov will get a rest here with Joseph Woll making his season debut. The 25-year-old posted solid numbers last season and Toronto won six of his seven games between the pipes.
On the other side, Chicago will enter this tough matchup as heavy underdogs to get the win. The Blackhawks kicked off the new season with a surprise 4-2 upset of the Penguins on the road. However, they’d fail to build on that momentum in following games as they would then proceed to fall to back-to-back defeats. Their most recent outing resulted in a 3-2 away loss to the Canadiens and was the second straight game where they were held to two or fewer goals. Chicago finished dead-last in the Central division last season with only 26 wins from their 82 games. Starting in the net for this game will see first-choice Petr Mrazek return after backup Arvid Soderbloim filled in against Boston. Mrazek made 33 saves on 36 shots against Montreal for a save percentage of .900.
