Two teams trying to chase down the Florida Panthers for the Atlantic crown will collide on Tuesday morning as the 35-17-8 Toronto Maple Leafs host the 35-13-4 Boston Bruins. Bar a defeat at home to the Vegas Golden Knights, the Maple Leafs have looked imperious of late. When they are on offensively, they look like a juggernaut but while that might carry them in the regular season, a defence that only ranks 17th is a worry when the playoffs roll around. They showed plenty of guts to come from behind the New York Rangers twice early on Sunday morning and claim a shootout win over the top team in the Metropolitan division. Their red-hot form in front of net can carry them for a while longer.
Things have not been going well in Boston of late, with just four wins in their last 13 games. They have picked up points in a further five, losing three in overtime and a pair of shootouts. They have four defeats in a row on the road, including a very disappointing 1-5 loss in New York against the Islanders when last playing. That was only their second four-goal defeat of the season, the other also on the road, in Winnipeg. Their captain Brad Marchand has suddenly gone stone cold, picking up a single point in his last five games with top point scorer David Pastanak producing three blanks in his last five as well after a streak of points in 14 of 16. With the top line struggling, the entire team has looked lost so this is a poor time for them to be visiting the Leafs.
