A huge matchup in the Atlantic division in the NHL sees the first-place Boston Bruins taking on the second-place Toronto Maple Leafs. Both teams are having terrific seasons but it’s the Bruins that have truly stood out above the rest so far during this campaign. Boston has a record of 38 wins, seven losses and five overtime defeats, putting them on 81 points and holding the highest point total in the NHL. They have an 11 point lead over second-place Toronto in the Atlantic division and a seven point lead over the Hurricanes for the best record in the league. However, Boston is currently experiencing their longest losing streak of the season at three games, although the second of the three losses came in overtime. It was also the first time that Boston had lost two consecutive games on the season, let alone three which is a testament to their dominance so far. Their last outing resulted in a 4-1 away defeat to Hurricanes.
Looking to extend Boston’s rare losing streak is the Maple Leafs as they try to chip away at the 11 point deficit in the division. Toronto has accumulated a record of 31 wins, 12 losses and eight overtime defeats which gives them a points total of 70. This point total is the third-highest in the NHL and the Leafs are unfortunate in that regard to be in the same division as the Bruins. Toronto’s last game finished in a 5-1 victory over Washington, their third win from the last four games and their sixth win from the last 10. The Maple Leafs will try to close out this current home stand with what would be a statement win as they play their fifth straight home game here. The Buds have been fantastic on their home ice this season, racking up 20 wins from 28 outings and suffering defeat in regulation only four times.

The three game losing streak is certainly eyebrow-raising given their overall form this season but there is a good chance that ends tonight. Boston is simply too good of a team to lose for a fourth consecutive game despite how strong the Maple Leafs have been on home ice this season.
