Third seed Tommy Paul will face off with Reilly Opelka as he continues his Dallas Open title defence. The winner of their first tour-level showdown will play Tomas Machac, Taylor Fritz or Denis Shapovalov for a place in the final. Below is our prediction for this match.

Paul hasn't looked particularly impressive in his title defence. He needed a decider to win his two fixtures this week.

Paul faced off with wildcard Jenson Brooksby in the first round and then qualifier Ethan Quinn in the last round. He has now won eight of 10 matches and has a quarter-final finish at the Australian Open as his highlight of the season.

Opelka won the inaugural Dallas title three seasons ago. As he has the head-to-head advantage over Paul, he will be confident of inching closer to another crown.

Opelka defeated Paul in their only encounter back in 2018. To advance to the quarter-finals, Opelka produced a 2-1 comeback victory over Cameron Norrie.

He has now won seven of nine matches and has a runner-up finish in Brisbane as his season highlight.

In Brisbane, Opelka earned one of the biggest wins of his career as he saw off Novak Djokovic in straight sets in the quarter-finals. Progressing to the last eight here has propelled the former world number 17, 25 places to 120th in the live ranking.
