Nick Kyrgios takes on 14th seeded Tommy Paul in the second round of the Citi Open in Washington. Kyrgios is the world number 63 but would be a lot higher if there had been ranking points at Wimbledon where he reached the final. His last five tournaments have produced three semi-finals, a final and a loss due to retirement. With a quarter final at Indian Wells and beating Andrey Rublev in Miami, it's been a strong year for the tempermental Australian. This is his first tournament since Wimbledon and he beat Marcos Giron in the first round, winning in straight sets.

Tommy Paul is the world 34 and that's just below his career high of 32nd. The American got to the quarter finals in Atlanta last week but was beaten by the then world number 53 Iyla Ivashka in three sets. His grass court season saw him reach two quarter finals but he had a disappointing clay court season before that, including losing in straight sets to Kyrgios in Houston. His best result this year has been a semi-final in the Delray Beach Open but he didn't beat anyone in the top 150 to get that far. Kyrgios can be backed to get the win here.
