Tommy Paul is the 13th seed for the Miami Open and takes on wild card Martin Damm in the second round. For the winner of this outdoor hard court match, the scheduled opponents in round three are either 21st seed Frances Tiafoe or unseeded Christopher O'Connell. Paul received a bye into round two of this Masters event. His best performance in this tournament came last year when getting to the fourth round. Paul is enjoying a good 2024 and is ninth in the Live ATP Race. The American will look to continue the good form that saw him make it to the last four at Indian Wells last week. That included wins over Ugo Humbert and Casper Ruud before being beaten by Daniil Medvedev after winning the first set. Martin Damm was ranked a career high 204th at the start of this Masters tournament. He was given a wild card to play and this is his first time in the main draw. The American was given a wild card into the 2022 Miami Open qualifiers but lost in his first match. He's mainly played on the Challenger Tour this year, getting to the final in Oeiras, Portugal two months ago and three quarter finals. He did play in the indoor hard court ATP tournament in Marseille but lost in the qualifying rounds. Round one of this tournament saw him beat Zhihzen Zhang in straight sets,both going to a tie-break.
