Tommy Paul is back in Adelaide for a fourth time. In each of his three previous appearances, he has qualified for at least the quarter-finals. A semi-finalist here in 2020, Paul will be hoping to make a strong start as he debuts for the season.

The American last played a competitive Singles match last October. In 2024, Paul won 45 matches which was the second successive time he had won as many matches in a calendar year.

He ended the year with three titles and secured a career-high 12th place in the ATP.

Manuel Guinard battled in three sets to eliminate Roman Safiullin in the first round. It was the perfect response after he had been eliminated from the competition in the qualifying rounds.

The Frenchman will now hope to win successive main draw fixtures at tour level for the first time since 2022. The 29-year-old isn’t a strong tour-level player and also doesn’t have a promising hardcourt record.

Guinard is currently placed outside the top 260 ATP places.
