Jack Draper defeated Paul here last season in the second tournament of back-to-back Adelaide championships. He won in straight sets in the second round on his way to the semifinals. It was their first and only encounter and the Brit will be eager for a similar outcome. Draper is also making his season debut in Adelaide. He defeated Sebastian Baez 2-0 in the first round before playing his toughest match yet in the second round against Miomir Kecmanovic. The match lasted for three hours and 40 minutes and saw Draper come from a set down to win. A tiebreaker was played in each of the last two sets. The 22-year-old is ranked 67th in the live ranking.
