Tommy Paul vs Daniel Altmaier Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Japan Open

The ATP Tour moves on to Tokyo for the Japan Open. This is an outdoor hard court event with top seed Taylor Fritz defending his title. He's in the opposite half of the draw from fifth seeded Tommy Paul who plays unseeded Daniel Altmaier in the first round of this ATP 500 event. Paul is currently 12th in the live rankings and in the same position in the ATP Race. Paul had a good week in Shanghai in his last tournament. He got to the last 16 before losing to eventual runner-up Andrey Rublev. Paul also reached that stage in the US Open but then had a poor run of losses in the Davis and Laver Cup competitions. Form on hard courts this year has included a semi-final in Toronto two months ago where he beat Carlos Alcaraz.

Daniel Altmaier is down at 49th in the live rankings and six places lower in the ATP Race. It didn't go quite so well for the German in the Shanghai Masters, losing to Yoshihito Nishioka in round one. That was the third straight singles tournament defeat for the German. It's not been a great year for him in ATP hard court events. He last won a main draw match in February and his best results this year have come on clay rather than hard courts. This is another tough tough task for him and we tip Paul to win in straight sets to set up a round two match against either Max Purcell or Mackenzie McDonald.
