Ninth seed Casper Ruud is in the quarter finals at Indian Wells for the first time in his career.. He takes on the 17th seed Tommy Paul in the last eight of this outdoor hard court tournament. The winner will go into the last four and play either fourth seed Daniil Medvedev or the seventh seeded Holger Rune. Ruud is up to eighth in the live rankings after his run to the last eight of this Masters 1000 tournament and holds the same position in the ATP Live Race. His form on outdoor hard courts has been top class in recent weeks. The final has been reached in both of his last two tournaments played in Los Cabos and Acapulco. Ruud has so far beaten qualifier Lukas Klien, unseeded Arthur Fils and in the last 16 came from behind to beat unseeded Gael Monfils. He's won 11 of his last 13 matches and will hope to make that 12 by beating Paul.

Tommy Paul is also in the last eight at Indian Wells for the first time. The American was 17th when this tournament got underway but is up a place in the live rankings. Beating Ruud would take him up to 14th which is the position he currently holds in the ATP Live Race. He's got a poor record against his opponent though with only one win in their five previous matches. He won their first meeting in 2017 but has lost the next four, two on outdoor hard courts in Grand Slams played in Australia and the US. This year has seen him win the outdoor hard court title in Dallas and get to the Delray Beach final. Paul has got to this quarter final without dropping a set with the only seed met being 14th seeded Ugo Humbert who he beat in round three. We tip Ruud to win this match.
