Fifth seed Andrey Rublev can boost his chances of making the Tour Finals with a win over 12th seeded Tommy Paul. This is a fourth round match in the ATP Shanghai Masters with the winner set for a quarter final, possibly against Stefanos Tsitsipas. It's already a hard court tournament that has seen several surprises. Half of the top ten seeds have been knocked out at the time of writing this preview on the afternoon of October 9. Rublev is fifth in the Live ATP Race and with players such as Alexander Zverev, Holger Rune and Taylor Fritz already out of this Masters event, he has a good chance of strengthening his chances of a top eight finish. Rublev (seventh in the latest overall rankings) is bidding to reach his first quarter final since the US Open. He's won two matches so far in Shanghai, both in straight sets.

Tommy Paul is 11th in the Live ATP Race and will need to go deep here and in Paris if wanting to get into the Tour Finals. The American is a career high 12th overall and up a place in the live list. Paul hasn't been playing well in recent weeks with five successive losses. August saw him reach the last four in Toronto and that included a win over Carlos Alcaraz who topped the rankings at the time. In Shanghai he's beaten Sebastian Ofner for the loss of three games but had to go to a final set to get past Arthur Fils. He's 4-1 down in previous meetings with Rublev.. In terms of hard court matches, he has lost two of three matches against the Russian. We believe Rublev will get the win here.
