Tomas Martin Etcheverry vs Sebastian Korda Prediction & Betting Tips - Toronto, Canada
by Joseph King | in ATP Toronto Predictions
The ATP National Bank Open at Toronto sees Argentine Tomas Martin Etcheverry facing off against American Sebastian Korda in this round of 64 matchup. The winner between these two will go on to face either 14th-seeded Borna Coric or Grigor Dimitrov in the second round. Etcheverry comes into this match off the back of a semi-final appearance at the Generali Open Kitzbuhel where he would ultimately lose 2-1 to Sebastian Baez. It was a much-needed run for the 24-year-old who had previously suffered two straight first round exits and was on a three match losing streak ahead of that tournament. The Argentine holds 34th-place in the ATP rankings, just one spot below his all-time career high of 30th which he achieved in June of this year. Etcheverry will be the underdog in this contest, partly down to his mixed results when playing on a hard surface. He has a 50% winning percentage on hard courts in 2023 and a winning percentage of just 54.9% all-time on this surface.
Sebastian Korda will be hoping for a deep run at Toronto to recapture some of the form that he showed earlier in the year. The 23-year-old started 2023 red-hot, making it to the final of the Adelaide Open where he would fall to defeat against Novak Djokovic. He followed that up with an impressive run in the Australian Open before having to retire in the third set of the quarter-final due to injury. Korda spent about three months on the sidelines, returning in April for the Madrid Open. Since his return, however, things haven’t looked quite right for the hard-hitting American. The ATP 32nd ranked player has a record of just 4-6 since recovering from his injury, in which time he has been eliminated in the first round of four of six tournaments. His last outing resulted in a 2-1 defeat to Alexander Shevchenko in the first round of the Citi Open.

Our Tomas Martin Etcheverry vs Sebastian Korda Prediction
These two players come into this tournament in different veins of form which could show itself on the court in Toronto. Korda is understandably the favorite as, despite his recent struggles, has proven to be dangerous on hard courts. Etcheverry, meanwhile, does not have the best results on hard courts as he is a clay court specialist. However, the Argentine has proven effective at keeping his contests close, even if he didn’t emerge victorious in the end. Only twice in Tomas Martin Etcheverry’s eight hard court matches this season did he suffer a straight sets defeat. Therefore, our Etcheverry vs Korda prediction is for Etcheverry to win a set.
