Sixth seed Tomas Etcheverry and the unseeded J.J Wolf will meet in the first round at the Eastbourne International on Monday. Etcheverry is making his season debut on grass in Eastbourne. He will hope that he is able to settle on the surface unlike in the last two seasons. The Argentine made his grass court debut in 2021 and has lost two of the three matches he has played since. But given his form this year, he will be confident of better tidings. Etcheverry has compiled a 26-15 win-loss record and has played three finals though he is yet to win a title. Two of those three finals happened to be his first two at tour level. He arrives for this match after a three-week break with his last match being a fourth-rounder at Roland Garros. Wolf is 14 places below Etcheverry in the live ranking. The American has moved up one place to number 46 and arrives for the tournament after his first-round exit in London. Wolf made his season debut on grass at Queen’s Club where he played three matches and lost twice. The tournament not only served as his first on grass this year but the first of his career. Before playing in London, Wolf had never played a match on grass. He will hope that he is able to take advantage of Etcheverry’s struggles on the surface here. Wolf is having a rocky campaign and has managed only one more win than the matches he has lost. The winner here will play either the wildcard George Loffhagen or the qualifier Luca Van Assche next.
