Tomas Martin Etcheverry vs Adrian Mannarino Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Mutua Madrid Open
by Devesh Jaganath in Tennis Predictions
The Mutua Madrid Open will get going this week, and in our featured match, we will see Tomas Martin Etcheverry take on Adrian Mannarino in a first-round clash on Thursday. Following an excellent run in Houston at the start of the month, Etcheverry has moved up to 59th in the world rankings from 73rd at the start of that tournament. The Argentine looked in excellent rhythm in that tournament, overcoming the likes of Juan Manuel Cerundolo and Cristian Garin en route to the final, but came up just short at the final hurdle against the number one seed Francis Tiafoe. Last week in Barcelona, Etcheverry beat wildcard Pablo Andujar in the opening match but was no match for Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, who knocked him out in the following round. The Argentine is now 15-10 for the year and 11-6 on clay. Etcheverry has earned two runners-up medals on his favoured surface this year and will be expecting to go deep in this tournament as well.
Meanwhile, Adrian Mannarino hasn’t had a great time since stepping onto the clay this season and comes to Madrid hoping to change that. Ranked 46th in the world, Mannarino made an early exit at his first major clay-court event in Mont Carlo, where he was beaten by ALT entry Ivan Gakhov in the first qualifier and followed that up with a second-round exit in the Oeiras 3 Challenger event last week, where he was beaten by another much lower-ranked player, Kimmer Coppejans. Historically, this has never been a kind surface for the Belgian, winning just twice in 18 matches over the last four years, 1-2 so far this year. Coming up against a clay-court specialist doesn’t bode well for Mannarino’s chances in this one.
