Tomas Machac vs Daniil Medvedev Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP French Open

Fifth seed Daniil Medvedev takes on unseeded Tomas Machac for a place in round four of the French Open. Waiting for the winner in the last 16 will be either 11th seed Alex de Minaur or unseeded Jan-Lennard Struff. Medvedev has reached round four at Roland Garros on two previous occasions, most recently in 2022 and was a quarter-finalist in the year before that. The Russian is up to fourth in the live rankings and only Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev have earned more ranking points than him in 2024. His best surface isn't clay with ranking points being piled up in hard court tournaments. He did win the Italian Open last year though. This is his fourth clay court tournament of the year and he did get to the last eight in Madrid. So far at this year's Roland Garros, he's beaten Dominik Koepfer in four sets and then took on Miomir Kecmanovic in round two. He was 6-1 5-0 ahead when his unseeded opponent retired.

There's only been one match between these two players and that was played last year. Machac lost that in straight sets but it was on a hard court. Machac has risen up the rankings this year and was 34th in the latest list having started 2024 in 78th place. Last week saw him reach the Geneva Open final, including beating Novak Djokovic.This year has seen him  win at Roland Garros at the fourth time of asking. He beat Nuno Borges in straight sets and then defeat the 31st seed Mariano Navone. The Czech won the first two sets for the loss of three game but only won four games in the next two sets. Machac fought back to win the final set 6-1. He can't afford to blow hot and cold against Medvedev and we tip the seed to win this.
