Eighth seed Tomas Machac will take on the unseeded Brandon Nakashima in the semi-finals of the Mexican Open. The winner will then play Denis Shapovalov or Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the championship match. Below is our prediction for this tie. 

Tomas Machac is one win away from advancing to only his second tour final and two wins away from a maiden tour title. The 24-year-old stopped the qualifier Learner Tien’s impressive campaign this week in the quarter-finals. 

He won in straight sets for the second successive game and improved to a 10-4 record. The Czech player has now moved up to 22nd in the live ranking, a new career high.

Brandon Nakashima has also been in excellent form this week. He has won his three matches without dropping a set.

The American defeated David Goffin by the loss of eight games in the quarter-finals and had previously ousted fourth seed Holger Rune. His sixth win in 11 outings this season has propelled him up nine places to 33rd in the live ranking, a career high. 

Nakashima has previously qualified for a tour final three times, all on hard courts, with one being in Mexico. He won his most recent tour final three seasons ago in San Diego.
