Barangay Ginebra and Meralco Bolts are levelled at 1-1 after the first two matches of the semis-finals of the 2020 PBA Philippines Cup making it a mouth-watering third match to look forward to. Ginebra won the first match of the series 96-79, but Meralco returned the favour immediately with a 95-77 win in the second match.

An interesting point about the two games is that the margin of victories is high, but the matches have been very close. 17 points and 18 points winning margins speak about one-sided matches, but the two matches we have had so far were anything but that. In their Game 1 win, Ginebra were quicker to the ball and dominated the battle of rebounds. That game saw Ginebra aggregate 53 rebounds including 17 offensive rebounds, while Meralco only aggregated 36 rebounds. Game 2 saw Meralco take charge with 53 rebounds of their own while limiting Ginebra to 44 rebounds.

The shooting percentage also came down for Ginebra, who missed out 48 out of their 75 attempts for a lowly 36% shooting rate. Ginebra will be banking heavily on the trio of Stanley Pringle, Japeth Aguilar, and Scottie Thompson with the three combining for nearly half of Ginebra’s scores in the series. Meralco, on the other hand, have eight players averaging seven points per game with their top-scorer Chris Newsome averaging just 14.5 points.
