Thiago Seyboth Wild and Thiago Monteiro are set to meet on Sunday in the Hamburg European Open qualifiers. Wild, ranked 121st in the world, defeated Andrea Collarini in straight sets in first round of the qualifiers. The Brazilian has been dominant on the surface this year, only two of his 46 victories not coming on clay. This form has seen him win two of the three challenger finals he has contested. He is now currently ranked 122nd in the live ranking, dropping down one place. Wild won the only other encounter with Monteiro back in 2019 which was on clay in Guayaquil. He is making his second appearance here, returning after two seasons.

World number 122 Monteiro has also had his best moments this season on clay. However, the Brazilian has also suffered most of his defeats on the surface. Thirteen of his 16 victories have come on clay so too have 14 of his 21 defeats. He has largely been unstable, but has been in good form recently winning four of his last six matches. The latest was his first-round victory over the alternate Renzo Olivo who was forced to retire after the first set. Monteiro has moved above Wild in the live ranking and is currently placed 121st. He last played in Hamburg in 2018 when he made it to the quarterfinals. The winner here will advance to play in the main draw.
