World number 90 Thiago Seyboth Wild will take on 138th-ranked Andrea Vavassori in the semi-final of the Genoa Challenger tournament on Saturday. The winner of this match will move on to face either Thiago Monteiro or Fabio Fognini in the final match. Wild came into this competition off the back of an exit during qualifying at the US Open. However, that followed a title win at the Como Challenger event earlier in the month. The Brazilian has now reached four finals this year and won three of them. All his title wins were on the clay as well. He beat Riccardo Bonadio, Andrea Picchione and Stefano Napolitano in the previous rounds, losing only one set in that time. Wild is now 57-18 for the year and 54-16 on his favored clay surface. 

Meanwhile, Vavassori also failed to qualify for the US Open, losing to Emilio Nava in the second match. The Italian has struggled on the ATP circuit and has only got past the second round of any competition at the highest level once this year. However, he has had greater success on the Challenger level, having made a quarter-final and semi-final appearance earlier this year. Here in Italy, Vavassori has beaten Duje Ajdukovic, Franco Agamenone and number two seed Federico Coria in the last three rounds. Like his opponent, Vavassori favors this surface and has a record of 26-12 on it and is 28-18 overall. He has not dropped a set as yet in this tournament and only lost three games in his last match. Having sent the number two seeds home already, can he now do the same to the third seed as well?
