The puck is about to drop for the 2024 NHL All-Star game with the brightest stars in the league ready to put on a show for the fans. This edition of the yearly exhibition sees the format return to the one used in 2016 where four teams (one for each division) face off in three-on-three games with 10-minute halves. It will be a two-round knockout tournament style to determine the winner. The four captains (Auston Matthews, Connor McDavid, Nathan MacKinnon, Jack and Quinn Hughes) have already selected their teams in the All-Star game draft. Due to the unique format of the NHL All-Star game, we’ll focus on the form of the players themselves that will be competing. Aves center Nathan MacKinnon is currently second in points in the NHL with 31 goals and 53 assists for 84 total. He’ll be joined by Aves teammate Cale Makar. The three-time All-Star is likely the best defenseman in the NHL today and is second in defenseman points with 12 goals and 48 assists giving him 58 total. The only defenseman with more points is one of the other captains Quinn Hughes who has 62. Also on the team is legendary Sydney Crosby, who ranks 11th in the NHL in goals with 27th.

Team MacKinnon’s first matchup will be against Team McDavid, featuring reigning MVP and team captain Connor McDavid. The 27-year-old, three-time Hart Memorial Trophy winner is having somewhat of a down year considering his unbelievably high standards. With Vegas goalie Adin Hill missing out on selection, the matchup between Team MacKinnon and Team McDavid sees the two best performing goalies facing off.
