Top seed Taylor Fritz will defend his Delray Beach Open title against compatriot and third seed Tommy Paul. This is the eighth meeting between the two and the first as a championship match. Taylor Fritz triumphed here last season to win the fifth of his career tour titles. He has won five straight tour finals with three of those coming in tournaments held in the United States. The American should therefore be confident of securing back-to-back titles here. Fritz has been superb in his run to the final and has won his three matches without dropping a set. He defeated compatriot Marcos Giron in straight sets in the semifinals. This was his ninth win in 11 outings this year and the eighth on a hard court. Despite his run to the final, Fritz has dropped one place to 10th in the live ranking. The 26-year-old has defeated Paul three times in their seven previous encounters.

Tommy Paul is in scintillating form at the moment. The American is on a seven-match winning run and has already won one title this year. Paul arrived in Delray after winning the Dallas Open. He has carried on with that momentum and as he has the head-to-head advantage over Fritz, he will be confident of back-to-back titles. Paul’s win in Dallas was his second tour title in four attempts and ended a run of two successive defeats. The current world number 14 has registered two of his four wins over Fritz on hard courts. One of those wins was the last time they met, which was a year ago in his run to the final in Acapulco. Paul has compiled a 10-2 record with six of his wins coming on hard courts.
