Taylor Fritz won the recent Indian Wells tournament and is going well in Miami. The 11th seed takes on unseeded Tommy Paul for a place in the fourth round. Whoever wins this match will face either Sebastian Korda or Miomir Kecmanovic in the last 16, both of whom are unseeded. Fritz has climbed ten places in the world rankings this year. Signs of a good 2022 for the American came when he beat both Cameron Norrie and Felix Auger-Aliassime in the ATP Cup. He then reached the last 16 of the Australian Open, losing in five sets to Stefanos Tsitsipas. A quarter final was reached in Dallas but then came the biggest win of his career as he won the Indian Wells title with wins over Andrey Rublev in the semi-final and then Rafa Nadal in the final. This tournament has seen him beat Mikail Kukushkin in three sets, losing the middle one.

Tommy Paul began this tournament ranked 37th which is a career high position for the American. He's risen six places in the rankings in 2022 and 16 in the last calendar year. Paul reached the quarter final in both of the tournaments held in Adelaide in January. He then lost in the second round of the Australian Open to Miomir Kecmanovic, who he could meet if winning this match in Miami. Paul got to the semi-finals in Delray Beach (losing to eventual winner Cameron Norrie) but didn't beat any players ranked in the top 150. Next up for him was a quarter final in Accapulco, though he was a set down to Matteo Berrettini before the Italian retired with an injury. A good win came in Indian Wells when beating Alexander Zverev but he lost to Alex de Minaur in the last 32. In Miami, Paul has beaten Benjamin Bonzo and 23rd seed Karen Khachanov, the latter win needing three sets. He's 1-1 with Fritz in previous ATP Tour meetings. Fritz looks to be still in good form and can get the win here.
