Top seeded Taylor Fritz takes on the seventh seed Marcos Giron in the Dallas Open quarter final. Fritz began this week ranked eigth in the world but is up a place in the live rankings and that will be another career high. The 25-year-old started this year by being part of the American team that won the United Cup. He played five singles matches in that team tournament and won them all bar a three-set loss to Cameron Norrie. His wins included three victories over players who were ranked in the top 16 at the time - Zverev, Hurkacz and Berrettini. He didn't fare so well in the Australian Open though, losing in the second round to unseeded Alexi Popyrin in five sets. This week has seen him win one match, a straight sets win over fellow American Jack Sock. His matches do regularly include tie-breaks with one in that win over Sock. He even had two successive wins in the United Cup where all four sets were decided by tie-breaks. A bet on one in this match could be a winner.

Marcos Giron started this tournament in 55th place but like his opponent is up one in the live rankings. The American is hoping to get back into the top 50 after achieving a career high position of 49th last year. This is his second quarter final of the new year. The other came in Auckland where he won two matches before being beaten by Cameron Norrie. He had a tough draw in the Australian Open and suffered a first round loss to Daniil Medvedev. He'll want to forget that defeat as he only won three games in as many sets. This week has gone better for Giron with a three-set win over Alex Rybakov (losing the middle set) and unseeded Oscar Otte in straight sets. There have been five previous meetings between the pair and Fritz has a 4-1 lead. The only win for Giron was in this tournament last year but Fritz has also had a win in Dallas over his opponent in this match. Friz looks to be in the better form and can get the win.
