Top seeded Taylor Fritz takes on eighth seed J J Wolf in the last four of the Atlanta Open. The winner of this match will face either seventh seed Ugo Humbert or unseeded Aleksandar Vukic in the final of this outdoor hard court event. Fritz began the week ranked ninth in the world but even if he wins the title he can't go any higher. He's also in that position in the ATP Race so could well make it to the end-of-season ATP Tour Finals. The American is playing his first tournament since Wimbledon where he lost in the second round. On hard courts this year, Fritz started the year being part of the American team that won the United Cup. He won five of his six matches in that tournament including three wins over players ranked in the top 16 at the time. In singles tournaments, he won the Delray Beach Open and reached the last four in Dallas and Acapulco. The last eight was reached at Indian Wells and Miami so it's been a good hard court season for the American. This week has seen him take on two unseeded opponents and he beat them both in straight sets. 

J J Wolf was ranked 46th at the start of this Atlanta Open. He's up to 44th in the live rankings and can climb to 42nd if winning this match. WInning this title would greatly boost his chances of getting into the top 32 and being seeded at the upcomin US Open. Wolf has a career high ranking of 39th, achieved in February of this year. He'll set a new one if he wins the Atlanta Open. The 24-year-old is in only his second hard court semi-final of the year. The other was in Dallas five months ago when giving away a set lead and losing to John Isner. In Atlanta, Wolf has won three matches without dropping a set and in only one of his six sets played has he dropped more than three games. This is his first match against Fritz and we go for the top seed to get the win.
