Fifth seed Tatjana Maria and wildcard Fanny Stollar will meet on Wednesday at the Budapest Grand Prix. The winner of this second-round tie will play either unseeded Kateryna Baind or the wildcard Amarissa Toth next. Tatjana Maria is making her second appearance in Budapest and has already set a personal record by advancing to this round. She returns to the tournament after a five-year hiatus and will hope she ends up winning her third title of the year. The German has however had a rocky campaign and has compiled a 30-21 win-loss record with twelve of her victories coming on clay. In her last match, she was forced to come from a set down by Carole Monnet to win. She is now up two places to 65th in the live ranking. Having defeated Stollar before, Maria will be confident of victory here.

Fanny Stollar is up 62 places to 379th in the live ranking. This is after her opening round straight sets win over the qualifier Irene Burillo Escorihuela. It was her 17 victory in 29 matches this season and the 10th on clay. Stollar is a strong performer on clay and has already won a title this season on the surface in the ITF circuit. The Hungarian is making her sixth appearance in Budapest and has advanced to this round for only the second time. Stollar is a former Doubles champion here in Budapest, winning in 2021 with partner Mihaela Buzarnescu.
